Hedley Anticlimber
Brass Casting: Anticlimber comes with a small tow pin. Used on most
streetcars for emergency towing. This item was commonly used
for accident protection, and the device was useful in the event
of a collision. The webbing would interlock and not allow the
carbodies to ride over one another (or “telescope”)
and prevent further injuries or death. The anticlimber also has
a series of holes through the webbing, so that a disabled car
could be pushed or towed out of the way or around the yards and
workshops. This would be used in conjunction with a separate
tow bar, which was usually hung up under the car, but
accessible for the car crews. This tow bar is not yet available
from LRP, but can be made from a piece of small round stock or
flat stock approximately 3.5" in length (7 scale feet),
flattened at the ends and a small hole drilled through it. The
bar was long enough so that when car were towed though sharp
curves, the tow bar would not force the other car off the
tracks!
